Ondo: Proper planning as panacea for national development – Commissioner

The need for proper budgeting and economic planning has been identified as one of the essential frameworks for good governance and nation development across the globe.

Ondo state Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Pastor Emmanuel Igbasan, Thursday, made the observation at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondent’s forum in Akure, Ondo state capital.

He noted that the resource mobilisation for ultimate good use in governance needs a genuine and careful data gathering with interrelationship with all relevant government bodies and agencies for the economic development of the country.

Igbasan noted that Nigeria will continue to be at pace for development with good data and statistics for her physical, capital and economic developmental planning.

The budget and economic planning commissioner reiterated that, “For us in Nigeria to live a prosperous and sustainable manner, we should plan on how to unleash our potentials in such a way that would benefit us that are alive and also benefits the generations coming.

“Looking at the statistics that we have out there, Wikipedia put Ondo state as number seven in size of our GDP, in the National Bureau of Statistics, we are number six. The National Promotion Council put Ondo State as number four. The World Bank made Ondo State number six in terms of the size of our GDP. Our GDP is at $8.4 million. We have to interrogate the system critically.”
