The deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 election in Ogun State, Hon. Abdulkabir Akinlade, has described the proposed coalition against the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 as dead on arrival.
Akinkade, who stated this while speaking with Blueprint, in Abeokuta said those behind the move are group of vindictive and over-ambitious politicians who have nothing to offer Nigeria.
“Many of the proponents of coalition are former governors, ministers and government officials who are hungry for power and financial privileges they enjoyed while in government.
“Many of them cannot sustain their lifestyle outside of government, they are self entitled for having been closed to the president during electioneering.
“They feel they must be in government, so if they are not in government, they are offended. So, the coalition is dead on arrival as it is not meant to address the needs of the people, but for selfish interest”, he added.
Akinkade who recently defected to the All Progressive Party (APC) said the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has failed to stand in a pole position of an opposition for good governance.
“The whole APM family that went to PDP with me, we have all decided that we are going back to APC and by tonight or tomorrow we will try to meet with the Governor and once we have met with the Governor, we will tell him about the decision we have made today that we are back home.
“We believe that the family will have an open hand to accommodate us back into the fold. Governor Dapo Abiodun is the leader of the party, we are going to align with that leadership. Aremo Olusegun Osoba is the father of party, we will align with that.
“So, we will align with the party fully and whoever is a member of the party who falls into that leadership, we will work with that person”, he said.
