Ogun 2023: Amosun dumps APC, declares support for ADC guber candidate

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the senator representing Ogun central, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun, has formally declared his support for the African Democratic Party (ADC) governorship candidate, Biyi Otegbeye.

Amosun who contested the presidential primaries under the All Progressives Congress (APC) made the declaration while granting an interview with an international media organisation, monitored by Blueprint correspondent.

The former governor noted that although he is supporting the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, he will not support the governorship candidate of the party.

Amosun and the incumbent governor of the state, Dapo Abiodun, has been at loggerhead since 2019, which made the former to pitch his tent with Allied People’s Movement (APM) candidate, Abdulkabir Akinlade.

“I don’t hide behind one finger to fight. Otegbeye is the person I am supporting and ADC is the party.

“For the presidential poll, I can assure you, both right, left and center, we are supporting one person, Tinubu,” he said.

Amosun added that the 2019 governorship election was rigged in favour of the incumbent, adding that those involved have at one time or the other apologised to him.

“Dapo Abiodun must be removed from office because he was rigged into office in 2019.

“During the last election, I have said it, we won convincingly. They rigged, rigged and ended up with 19,000 votes.

“Some of them came to apologise to me. I can’t be mentioning names. We won that election, but I have moved on,” he said.
