NYSC coordinator warns members against misuse of uniform


The National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Coordinator, Walida Siddique Isa, has warned the newly sworn-in corps members against the misused of the NYSC uniform, sat ng it is a national symbol that must not be tampered with except for obvious reason of oversized and undersized.


This is even as 1800 corps members consisting of 977 male and 913 females were sworn in for the 2019 Batch ‘B’ stream 2  orientation exercise in the FCT.


Isa gave the warning during the swearing in ceremony of 2019 Batch ‘B’ stream 2 on Thursday in Abuja, saying the NYSC rules of engagement are sacrosanct, while all camp activities are mandatory.


She said: “I charge you therefore to follow its trend with passion for your physical fitness, mental alertness and entrepreneurship dispositions. I must warn you again that yours NYSC uniform is a national symbol that must not be tampered with except for obvious reasons of oversized and or undersized. While I confirm that your security and welfare is guaranteed, i urged you to be discipline, law abiding, security conscious, and always maintain the NYSC dress code at all times,” she said.


The minister of FCT, Alhaji Muhammad Musa Bello, who was represented by the director finance and administration, Ministry of Federal Capital Territory, Mr Udo Samuel Atang, assured the corps members that the FCT administration will continue to give the NYSC scheme in the FCT all the necessary support it deserves at all times, adding that the administration is working assiduously with all security agencies to ensure that the corps members security and welfare is well taken care of.


“I enjoin you to be security conscious, open-minded and embrace your fellow corps members with open hands, get to k ow them well. This is the only way to boost your capacity to assimilate and acclimatise with the prevailing culture of your host communities as you meet them one-on-one after the camp,” he said


Also the chairman, NYSC FCT governing board, Hajia Safiya Umar, who was represented by the director, Youth Social Development Secretariat, Mrs Hajarat Alayande, charged the corps members to adhere to all camp fuels, respect all camp officials, shun all forms of ethnic and religious zealotry and be kind to one another.


She said: “The time for self discovery begins here and now, so I urge you to whole heartedly participate in all camp activities especially the skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme which is geared towards enhancing your self-reliance and to curb the high rate of unemployment as well as contribute to long term value creation,” she said.
