NYCN to tackle unemployment, insecurity, others

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has vowed to tackle all issues affecting the growth of youths and progress of Nigeria, including insecurity, unemployment, poverty, among others.

The council made the pledge Monday in Abuja during the inauguration of members of the executive council, which had in attendance leaders of various organisations, including secretary general Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), Chief Willy Ezugwu, executive director African Students Education Support Initiative, Mr Chinonso Obasi, PRO of National Council for Women Societies of Nigeria, Hon. Comrade Safiya Ibrahim Ogoh, convener Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Justice and Equity, Comrade Olayemi Success, among others.

Addressing newsmen after his inauguration, newly elected president of NYCN, Solomon Adodo, said that many issues have been preventing Nigeria from taking its place in the comity of nations, but that the council will visit the nooks and crannies of Nigeria to harness the potentials of Nigerian youths.

He said: “Nigeria has waited for this moment. Our greatest asset as a nation does not lie in large deposits of oil, but in us as youths. It lies in our innovative ideas. Our task would be how to translate these ideas into realities. We have the potentials and we have been afforded the opportunity to contribute to national development.

“We will go to all the nooks and crannies of Nigeria and tap the potentials of youths and contribute our quota to solving the challenges of unemployment, poverty, insecurity and other social vices. We will work with government at state and national levels to solve these identifiable challenges that have been preventing Nigeria from taking its rightful place in the committee of nations.”

Also speaking, secretary general Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, Chief Willy Ezugwu, said that the older generation of the political class has failed Nigeria and implored youths to take up leadership positions to contribute their quota to rebuilding the nation.

“It is the turn of youths today. The elders have failed. The youths know the problems Nigeria face today and I believe in them to rebuild the nation. I have held different appointments as a youth and I still support the youth. The mantle of leadership is on the youth and they should take up the challenge,” he said.
