NYCN congress to hold as management suspends president

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has scheduled Gombe state as host of its forthcoming general congress to be attended by about 104 affiliated organisations considered eligible for the contest.
The congress which was to hold several weeks ago was delayed following the indefinite suspension of the incumbent president of the council, Comrade Murtala Mohammed Gamji.
Briefing Journalists in Abuja yesterday, the Acting President, Comrade Chinedu Mayor Enujeko, who was former Deputy President of the council recalled that the Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Barrister Solomon Selcap Dalung in January collapsed every faction and instituted a transition government with a six months mandate to pilot affairs of the council and organise a credible elections to usher in younger leadership.
He however regretted that the incumbent president failed to deliver on the mandate and was suspended indefinitely following a resolve by the ministry and the management of the council.
He said:”As former Deputy President of NYCN, I can say that Murtala and I were over aged, but we were invited as experienced council members to organize election within six months with funds released to conduct the process. Unfortunately the incumbent president thwarted the process and a management meeting of the NYCN was summoned following the decision by the ministry and, a vote of no confidence passed by the National Transition Committee (NTC).
“The vote of no confidence on Gamji was rectified to give way for credible elections. As former Deputy President, I was given 11 days to complete the process of conducting the elections.”
Enujeko who lamented that the activities in the council were marred by several developments gave assurance that a free and fair congress would be conducted to move Nigeria forward.
“I take over to complete the process which has commenced since January this year and I promise to conduct the elections in Gombe state. It has been unanimously adopted and agreed that it would be the host state for the congress within the 11 days period,” he said.
