Rivers United under coach Finidi George reclaimed top place in the NPFL after they beat home team Niger Tornadoes 1-0 in a Week 8 clash Monday evening at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna.

Seiyefa Jackson was the match winner for Rivers United in the 47th minute, but the visitors had to defend this lead after they were reduced to 10 men when Emmanuel Nnaji was sent off in added time.

The Port Harcourt club thus have 20 points from eight matches, two points ahead of Remo Stars, who were provisional leaders Sunday after a home win over Bendel Insurance.

Ikorodu City also shot out of the basement of the NPFL standings after a dramatic 4-2 home win over Lobi Stars.

The Lagos club raced to a 2-0 lead only for Lobi Stars to draw level all inside the first half.

However, in the second half Ikorodu City made sure they secured maximum points to leave coach Daniel Amokachi without a win since he took charge of the Makurdi club.
