No House c’ttees until Sept – Reps

The much expected standing committees of the House of Representatives may after all not be constituted until September.

The House Ad-hoc Committee on Media and Public Affairs stated this Tuesday after a closed door session earlier held Tuesday.

A member of the committee, Yusuf Gagdi at a media briefing, stated that the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila gave the information during the closed door session.

“Of the 102 committees, only the committee on House Services has been constituted, so that during our recess, the committee would be working, to provide office equipment for members,” he stated.

Also lending his voice, another member, Francis Agbo, while responding to a question on why the ethics and privileges committee was hurriedly put up, said it wasn’t targeted at any specific matter.

“It was only put in place to attend to any matter that may arise,” he said.

The House resumed to a rowdy session in about a fortnight ago over appointment of minority principal officers, after which the ethics committee was raised.

Barring any last minute adjustment, the House will proceed on its annual recess on July 25, 2019, and it is expected to be back in session sometime in September.
