President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabba, has urged the federal government to explain the controversy surrounding the Treasury Single Account (TSA) collection agent and the N25bn he allegedly benefited.

Wabba while speaking at a public lecture on “Good Governance with Special Focus on the National Assembly” organise by the NLC in Abuja, also said the allegation was alarming and called for urgent probe.
He said: “The federal government should come out and dispel or agree that what we saw in Punch is true or false. Because as part of our position to facilitate change as this administration preaches, we have taken our position in monitoring our political office holders, so that they can be accountable to the people which is the only way for us to get it right.”

“If what the paper said is true that the Federal government contracted the agent which serves as the remitter agent to collect money into the treasury single account have benefited to the tune of N25 billion, money that would have used to fix some of our challenges, then I don’t think we are practicing what we are preaching and I am not sure we are really trying to bring a positive change in Nigeria because the change we want is one that will put food on our table not money in the pocket of few.”
On the N25 billion TSA agent, the NLC scribe said there was no justification for federal government to use an agent for the purposes of collecting revenue because there is no federal government agency that would fail to remit its revenue to the federal government.
