The Chairman, Governing Council of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Hon. Babangida Nguroje, Tuesday, called on China to intensify its support to Nigeria on infrastructural development particularly on 3050 megawatts Mambilla Hydropower project.
Nguroje spoke in Abuja at an event organised by the Centre for China Studies in conjunction with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to mark the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between the two countries.
He said Nigeria as a country needed China to drive its economic and industrial revolution needed for the largest black nation, stating that China is a top global investor with keen focus in Africa and in particular, Nigeria.
Nguroje said: “Accordingly, we call on China to intensify its support to Nigeria especially as it relates to infrastructural development especially with the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the N2.1 trillion (about $5.792 billion) 3050 megawatts (MW) Mambilla hydropower project, among others.
“For a shared future to compliment efforts and drive inclusiveness, it is pertinent that China ignites its big brother role to Nigeria and drives the economic and industrial revolution needed for the largest black nation. Nigeria needs China to bring on board beneficial and impactful investments that will support the women and the large numbers of youths in Nigeria.
“The Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) has for more than 11 years visited China on yearly visits on investment drives. These visits strategically positioned Nigeria to the Chinese investing community. We need to work together with relevant agencies in Nigeria and China to harness more mutually beneficial investment forums that will be impactful to our growth and development.
“As part of NIPC’s renewed strategy to achieve targeted and beneficial investments, a country-focused investment promotion strategy was developed to proactively strengthen those countries with which Nigeria has strategic investment promotion relationships’’.
