Niger Delta community tasks NDDC , others on healthcare facility

A Niger Delta group, operating under the umbrella of ljaw Progressive Union of Aborigines, has called on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to build a hospital for the good people of Seimbiri Kingdom.

The group in letter to the top management of NDDC, lamented that the community has no functional health care facility that will attend to the health need of the people.

The letter which was signed by its lawyer, Ikhide Ehighelua & co, also requested that the project, when completed, should be used to immortalize HRM late Pere Charles Ayemi – Botu.

The letter reads: “We refer to the above subject matter and state that we are solicitors to the ljaw Progressive Union of Aborigines (hereinafter referred to as our ‘clients’) and write to your esteemed office on their instructions as follows: Our clients hereby notifies your good office of the demise of HRM Pere Charles Ayemi – Botu (JP) OFR, aka Lion of the Niger. The notification follows the official announcement of the Seimbiri Traditional Council of Chiefs through its spokesperson Chief Alexander Ebisine, which announcement was made public on 5th January 2024.

“It is on record that HRM Pere Charles Ayemi – Botu was on the throne for 29 years and during that period, the kingdom experienced massive peace and progress in many different directions. HRM Pere Charles Ayemi – Botu (JP) OFR was the first Executive Chairman of the Traditional Rulers of Oil Minerals Producing Communities of Nigeria (TROMPCON) and was a life Patron of the body. While our clients commend the great work being done by the NDDC across the Niger Delta Region, it is the desire of our clients to see at least one major project executed in Seimbiri Kingdom to Honour HRM Pere Charles Ayemi – Botu (JP) OFR who during his reign fought for and ensured that there was peace in the Niger Delta Region and in the Seimbiri Kingdom in particular.

“The attention of our clients has been drawn to the fact that there is no functional Healthcare Facility in the entire Seimbiri Kingdom. Its therefore the earnest wish of our clients; amongst other projects that a functional and standard Hospital be built and established in the Seimbiri Kingdom not only to Immortalize His Royal Majesty but also to ensure that basic healthcare is brought closer to the people at the grass roots”.

This request, the letter said, has become imperative so that the memory of HRM will be kept long in the region and the people will feel the real impact of the existence of an interventionist institution like the NDDC in the Region.

“We humbly urge you to use your good office and oblige this humble request. The Igaw progressive Union of Aborigines is a duly registered Association with the corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and it has reputable and well meaning ljaw sons and daughters behind it. They are committed to the growth and well being of the Ijaw nation in particular and the Niger Delta region in general,” the letter concluded.
