NCFRMI distributes palliatives to Benue IDPs

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internationally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Monday donated food items and other relief materials to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Benue state as palliatives to cushion the effects of COVID-19 pandemic.

The IDPs were sent out of their homes during the January 2018 attack by herdsmen and have been living in camps for the past three years.

The IDPs, just as other residents in the state and Nigeria, have been shut indoors as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Presenting the items to the IDPs at the Benue State Emergency Management Agency headquarters in Makurdi, the National Commissioner, Senator Baheed Mohammed Garba, said the gesture became necessary to bring succour to vulnerable IDPs, who are equally affected by the hardship brought by the dreaded coronavirus pandemic.

He said according to the record available to the commission, there were more than 100, 000 internally displaced persons and refugees in Benue.

Senator Mohammed, however, said only the IDPs were to benefit from the palliatives, adding that more would still be sent to the state.
