Nasarawa: APC aspirant goes to court over primary election result

An aspirant for Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency in the recently held primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mohammed Al-Basir, has dragged the party and incumbent member of the House, Mr. Ari Abdulmumuni, who participated in the election to a Federal High Court, Lafia, for refusing to declare him winner.

Speaking to journalists Wednesday, shortly after the matter was adjourned, counsel to plaintiff, Mathew Bukaa, SAN, said his client won the primaries held on May 29.

He said the plaintiff has been declared winner and he wants the court to uphold the outcome of the election because it has not been set aside by any court.

“Since there was a primary election and a winner  emerged, the party do not have the right to conduct another primary election  for the same position,” the counsel added.

Al-Basir said he approached the court to seek for justice as he believed that the court is the last hope of the common man.

Meanwhile, the trial judge, Justice Afolabi Nehizena, adjourned the case to August 3 to enable counsel to defenders file necessary responses before the next adjourned date.
