My attackers still enjoy executive protection – Aregbesola’s aide

A personal aide to the Minister of Interior and immediate past governor of Osun state, Olateju Ishola, Wednesday said the assassination attempt on his life was led by a thug that is enjoying executive protection in the state.

He insisted that the attack was political and an attempt to kill him, calling on security agencies to investigate and fish out the perpetrators.

Speaking at a press conference in Osogbo, Ishola explained that some hoodlums attacked him Sunday March 28, 2021, and attempted to kill him.

He stated that he attended a birthday organised by a member of the state house of assembly, representing Osogbo state constituency, Hon Taofeek Badmus, when the hoodlums singled him out and started pursuing him.

“The guy who led the attack is a known notorious hoodlum who he and his gang members have been enjoying executive protection in the state.

“Let it be reiterated that the attack on me was pure assassination attempt. It had nothing to do with any other event or catastrophe with which any person or group may treacherously attempt to get it associated.

“I saw the ring leader of the thugs, a known person to me, too. He turned back immediately he saw me.

“From what I observed, the attack is premeditated and political. It was an unprovoked attack, and it was an attempt on my life.

“To all intents and purposes, the assailants came to maim, abduct and (eventually) assassinate me as their principal victim in the onslaught. The entire events suggested attacks on any other victim as mere decoy.

“Also, Honourable BFK was harassed by the thugs when he attempted to rescue my friend, Wale Omolola. I managed to escape from the restaurant and was running towards Jerry Paul filling station. The hoodlums were running after me. They shot at me several times. They were shouting don’t kill him here, let us catch him and take him to another place.

He called on the security agencies in the state to fish out those involved in the attack on him and prosecute them accordingly.
