Ministry to establish national youth development fund

The Minister of Youth Development Boni Haruna, has said the Ministry is working on a bill approved by President Goodluck Jonathan, and the Federal Executive Council for the establishment of a National Youth Development Fund.
In a statement by the Assistant Director, Press and Public Information Mr. Olusola Abiola, Haruna disclosed this in Abuja when a delegation of former members of Adamawa

State House of Assembly led by former Speaker, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, paid him a courtesy visit.
According to the Minister, the fund is meant to address employment deficit , adding that it is similar to the fund established to deal with the current housing deficit.
“It is not going to be like any other funds, but this all important bill is purposely conceived to encourage the entrepreneurial skills of the youths which will invariably create wealth and reduce poverty in the society,” he said.

The Minister noted that over 60 percent of Nigeria’s population are young persons, saying however that the fund will  galvanize President Jonathan’s vision of a youth development sector.
He further expressed the firm belief that fund will provide enable youths have easy access and optimal utilization of their skills.
“The Youth Ministry having to cater for over 60 percent of the population is definitely a crucial and central to the development of the nation in general.”
