A medical doctor, Dr Alex Adekunle, has proffered a clinical evaluation on Senator Natasha Akpoti’s allegations against Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello.
The medical expert in a statement on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 accused Senator Natasha of having well-documented pattern of making baseless, sensational accusations against notable figures.
Dr Adekunle in his own perspective, noted that there was need to consider a possibility of an underlying psychiatric condition on the side of the suspended Senator.
Dr Adekunle also urged the suspended Kogi Senator to seek appropriate medical attention in no time.
“When I first watched the video of Natasha Akpoti accusing Senator Godswill Akpabio and former Governor Yahaya Bello of plotting to assassinate her, I was initially extremely shocked like every other Nigerian. Given her history as a serial accuser who thrives on the gullibility of her supporters, it was tempting to react emotionally.
“However, upon taking a step back and critically analyzing the situation, my perspective shifted. Natasha Akpoti has a well-documented pattern of making baseless, sensational accusations against notable figures–often without a shred of evidence. This led me, as a medical doctor, to consider a different angle: the possibility of an underlying psychiatric condition?
“One of the first things that came to mind was personality disorders, along with delusional and hallucinatory disorders. Specifically, her pattern of behavior raises concerns about erotomania (de Clérambault’s syndrome)-a condition in which an individual harbors a delusional belief that someone of high status is secretly in love with them or sexually attracted to them; what could have been behind her baseless accusation of Reno Omokri which she immediately retracted after evidence proved otherwise, and in fact paid Mr Reno a handsome anount of money not to go take legal actions. Another is her accusation of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, which she is yet to put forward any reasonable evidence, any evidence at all.
“Additionally, her tendency to fabricate grandiose and persecutory narratives aligns with delusional disorder, persecutory type, in which a person is convinced that they are the target of elaborate conspiracies or victimisation. Her outbursts, exaggerated claims, hot temper with journalists, and dramatic confrontations -including her highly unnecessary and almost physical altercation in the Senate Chambers over a routine seat reallocation-are also suggestive of borderline personality disorder (BPD), a condition characterised by emotional instability, impulsivity, and inappropriate aggression.
“If my analysis is correct, I hope she is receiving appropriate medical attention. While medical confidentiality prevents disclosure of treatment details, it would be reasonable to assume that she may be receiving care.
“However, the real concern here is the impact of her unchecked accusations on public perception and governance. Given the gravity of her claims accusing high-ranking political figures of attempted assassination–it is imperative that she be legally compelled to substantiate her allegations with credible evidence. I strongly recommend that a formal petition be submitted to the relevant authorities to ensure that she is held accountable. If she can provide verifiable proof of her claims, then due process should follow. However, if-as I strongly suspect-these accusations stem from a psychological disorder rather than factual reality, then steps should be taken to prevent further damage to reputations and public trust.
“Ultimately, while I refuse to believe that anyone could naturally be this maliciously manipulative, I am inclined to consider her actions as symptomatic rather than purely intentional. If my assessment is mistaken, I am open to correction,” he said.
