An aged man, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar Balago, has sued the Jigawa state Hisbah Command under Aminu Baba Waziri, for allegedly abducting and keeping his daughter, Nusaiba Abubakar for about two months, under the guise that he would give her in marriage without his consent.
The plaintiff, who spoke to press through his counsel, Barrister Ibrahim Shehu Sakwaya said he dragged the defendant to Jigawa Higher Sharia’a Court Dutse, accusing the Hisbah commander of giving out his daughter in marriage to one Ibrahim Abdullahi whose character and moral conduct the father said he was not satisfied with.
Barr Sakwaya explained further that the genesis of the matter was that Ibarhaim Abdullahi was in love with Nusaiba both of whom reside in Kano, saying when the man approached the father, he declined and turned down his offer to marry the girl because he was not comfortable with the character of the boy and refused to grant his request.
According to the counsel, the bride reported the matter to Kano state Hisbah Command to intervene and plead with the father to consent but that the Hisbah realised that Alhaji Ibrahim was an indigine of Jigawa state residing in Kano and thus transferred the case to Jigawa state Hisbah command for intervention.
The counsel said, when Abduallahi brought the dowry in process, the plaintiff refused to collect the money, but the brother of the girl collected on behalf of the father and from that time, Nusaiba ran away from home and moved to Jigawa where she met Hisabah Commander, Aminu Baba Waziri who was alleged to have kept her in custody for over two months.
Presiding judge, Hon, Jibrin Mustapha Gujurin, adjourned case to 4th January, 2018 for further mention.
