The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Monday inaugurated a new initiative, inducting media practitioners as traffic mayors.
The program is designed to enhance LASTMA’s efforts to ensure traffic order and safety across the metropolis by leveraging the influence of the media.
LASTMA’s general manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the initiative as a crucial step in promoting public compliance and reorienting road user behaviour.
He stated that the “Traffic mayor” programme marks a new era in traffic governance, where media professionals will serve as ambassadors of orderliness.
“This initiative is a deliberate and far-sighted attempt to broaden the frontiers of stakeholder engagement by embedding media practitioners… as active participants in the crusade for traffic sanity,” Bakare-Oki said.
