In a significant push to open up Lagos’ rural communities and strengthen regional integration, Lagos state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Thursday commissioned a major network of roads across Badagry local government and Olorunda Local Council Development Area.
The roads inaugurated are: Aradagun–Mosafejo–Ilado–Imeke Road, Samuel Ekundayo/Toga Road, and Hospital Road (Phase I) which were designed to ease movement, stimulate tourism, and improve access to key economic and historic centres within the Badagry division.
Speaking during the inauguration, Sanwo-Olu described the projects as part of a deliberate policy of his administration to deliver inclusive growth and equitable infrastructure across all parts of the state, in line with the THEMES Plus Agenda of his administration.
“These roads are not just about transportation; they are about opening up communities, boosting commerce, tourism, and delivering on our promise of inclusive governance,” he said.
The governor acknowledged the resilience and unwavering support of the Badagry people during the construction process, particularly during the last local government elections. He affirmed that their steadfast trust gave his administration the confidence to pursue and complete ambitious infrastructural projects.
Highlighting the economic and historical importance of the Badagry corridor, Sanwo-Olu stated that the region serves as a gateway to at least five West African countries, making infrastructure development in the area a strategic priority.
He statedd that Hospital Road, one of the commissioned projects, not only links communities to key historic landmarks and institutions such as the First Storey Building, Agiya Tree Monument, General Hospital, Heritage Museum, and LASU Foundation, but also plays a vital role in the state’s multimodal transport vision.
