The People of Afon, headquarters of Asa local government area of Kwara state, have highlighted the gains of the recent autonomy granted local government councils in the country by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
They said the autonomy was already bringing dividends of democracy to them at the grassroots following the successful local government elections conducted by the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The community said the installation of solar street lights on major streets in Afon headquarters of the local government by the chairman of the council, Alhaji Shehu Yahaya, has significantly enhanced the security and socio- economic transformation of the council’s headquarters.
This was contained in a statement signed by an Afon community leader, Alhaji Yissa Amosa Alag, and made available to our correspondent on Friday.
The statement which was signed on behalf of the district head of Afon, Alhaji Hanafi Kola Balogun and Mogaji of Afon, Alhaji Ibrahim Adebayo Mogaji, described the election of Alhaji Yahaya as apt, saying within a short period of time, he has made significant milestone in positively touching the lives of the people of the area.
Alagbade also applauded Governor Abdul Razaq and PresidentTinubu for the execution of numerous federal and state government projects, in Asa local government area, especially the ongoing multi-billionaire Eiyenkorin-Afon-Offa-Odo Otin Road project, and assured the present All Progressives Congress-led administration of the unflinching support of the entire people of the area.
He also appealed to the government to reconstruct Ganmo- Afon Road, complete the abandoned Afon-Aboto-Oyo state boundary road project being undertaken by the federal government in order to fast track the socio-economic development of the people.
