Kebbi donates 36 seater bus, Sokoto N5m to FUBK

The Kebbi state government weekend donated a 36 seater bus to the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, while its neighbour, the Sokoto state government, donated N5 million to the institution.

Governor Nasir Idris announced the kind gesture at the maiden convocation of the university in Birnin Kebbi Saturday.

On the other hand, the acting vice chancellor, Sokoto State University, Professor Bello Yerima, informed the gathering that Governor Ahmad Aliyu mandated him to donate N5 million to the university.

In his speech, Kebbi state chief executive, Governor Nasir Idris, thanked the federal government for establishing the university in the state, which has enhanced access to tertiary education among students.

“The incumbent administration in Kebbi under my watch places premium on educational development and necessary resources are devoted to the sector for the desired growth.

“I will sustain youth empowerment and encourage them to acquire knowledge in all fields.

“I am announcing the donation of a 36 seater bus to the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, to facilitate transport requirement of students,” Governor Idris said.

The Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, represented the visitor to the university, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

President Tinubu announced that his administration has increased budgetary allocation to education sector, saying the federal government would channel additional support to all schools towards ensuring continuity in academic calendar.

“The federal government is aware that education is the bedrock of national development and consequently, the government would continue to make education accessible to all Nigerians,” the president assured.

The chancellor of the university, Eze Cletus Ikechukwu Ilomuanya, the Obi of Obinugwu, gave assurance that the FUBK would continue to be the citadel of learning and centre of excellence.
