Kanu, Okocha, Taribo West, others set to grace Olu of Warri 4th coronation novelty match

In celebration of His Imperial Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III CFR, the revered Olu of Warri, the 4th Coronation Novelty Match is gearing up to deliver an unforgettable spectacle of football.

Expected to lead the charge will be legendary icons of Nigerian football, 

Austin “Jay-Jay” Okocha a former Bolton Wanderers maestro, celebrated for his electrifying skills and 74 Super Eagles caps; crowned BBC African Footballer of the Year in 2003 and 2004, Nwankwo Kanu – Arsenal legend and two-time African Footballer of the Year (1996, 1999), known for his silky footwork and winning mentality and Victor Ikpeba – “Prince of Monaco,” and 1997 African Footballer of the Year, bringing class and experience to the field and others.

They will headline a captivating 9-a-side clash between the Chevron Allstars Warri and Iwere Allstars, promising a thrilling blend of nostalgia and athleticism.

Joining the lineup are other celebrated heroes of the game, Emmanuel Amunike, 1994 African Footballer of the year,

Austin Eguavoen, Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Taribo West , Renowned AC Milan and Inter Milan defender.

Others in the lineup include, Mutiu Adepoju an  ex-Real Madrid midfielder, 

 Ifeanyi Udeze, former West Bromwich Albion left back and media personality

Ifeanyi Ekwueme,  Polonia Warsaw playmaker, Garba Lawal – Veteran Super Eagle with 57 international caps, 

Yakubu Ayegbeni, ex-Portsmouth and Maccabi Haifa striker and 

Peterside Idah a former Moroka Swallows goalkeeper and television presenter

The novelty match is scheduled to hold at the Palace of Olu of Warri, 

Tuesday 19th of August 2025 at 4:30pm
