Kaduna State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon Bashir Zubairu has resigned his appointment to contest for seat in the State House of Assembly.
Speaking during a press conference organised to inform the state of his resignation, the outgoing commissioner said the little period he has served as commissioner of Youth and Sports in the state came with a difference, because he was able to leave an indelible mark that would be remembered for a very long time.
He said during his tenure all sports in the state received adequate attention and this resulted in a number of success recorded by various sports in the state.
He specifically mentioned tennis, hockey and volleyball, where he said the state athletes were able to record great success under his leadership. He said the state owned football club Kaduna United FC was restructured under his administration as a commissioner to a club with a workable board, where all board members were able to discharge their duties effectively unlike what was obtainable in the past where the club is run by an individual and the club look more of a one-man show.
Bashir, who was former speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly in 1999-2003, said that it was unfortunate that his laudable programmes for the club did not see the light of the day as a result of inadequate funding.
He said the players of Kaduna United who were being owed 12 months salaries were paid one quarter of their salary on Monday. Bashir expressed optimism that despite the poor standing of the club on the league table, the club would not be relegated at the end of the season.
