Kaduna: Law hub advocates for criminal justice reforms

The executive director of Law Hub Development and Advocacy Center, Mr. Osita Chukwuma, Thursday called for reforms in the criminal justice in Kaduna state through knowledge sharing, capacity- building and continuous updating of criminal justice laws.

Speaking at an Administration of Criminal Justice Laws (ACJL) Implementation Assessment and Training Workshop for criminal justice stakeholders in Kaduna state, supported by MacArthur Foundation, Chukwuma, who was represented by the programme officer, Maryam Ibrahim, noted that the initiative is critical for the progress of a fair and just society.

While noting the long- standing relationship with Kaduna state, he expressed confidence in the support from the Chief Judge of Kaduna state and other criminal justice actors in anticipation of significant reforms in the Kaduna state criminal justice system.

He commended Kaduna state for its leadership role in enacting the ACJL and the accompanying practice direction, positioning the state to implement global best practices.

Chukwuma noted the dedication of high level stakeholders present at the workshop despite their busy schedules, which demonstrated the state’s commitment to criminal justice reform. He stated the importance of synergy and information sharing among stakeholders to ensure sustainable reforms. He also acknowledged the critical role of all present in upholding the objectives of the ACJL and lauded Kaduna state’s efforts in adopting and implementing the law.

The training session, which was conducted by experts aimed to assess the implementation of the ACJL, identify challenges and provide technical support to enhance criminal justice administration.
