JUSUN speaks on strike in Osun judiciary

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has dissociated its members from the strike declared by a set of individuals representing themselves as judicial officials in Osun state.

Some members of JUSUN had staged a protest to prevent the Chief Judge Oyebola Ojo, from entering her office, Wednesday, and were dispatched by policemen.

One Gbenga Eludire, who spoke to journalists as chairman of JUSUN in Osun, declared an indefinite strike following an understanding with policemen who dispatched their protest against Justice Ojo whom they accused of seizure of their wardrobe allowance, suspension of their colleagues, and refusal to lift the embargo on workers’ training.

But a copy of a circular received by our correspondent, Thursday, signed by the Deputy National President of JUSUN, Comrade Emmanuel Abioye, dissociated the union from the purported strike.

The circular titled ‘Circular on the position of national headquarters of JUSUN on the ongoing unrest in the Osun state judiciary,’ alleged that some unscrupulous elements confused the name of the union in the Osun state judiciary.

“The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) as a responsible union has never and will never take any perceived or real partisan position in all its activities with any individuals or organisation.

“Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria has never directed or approved that any of its members should proceed on any protest or picketing activity in Osun State Judiciary or any other state to settle any perceived or real political scores.

“Consequently, upon the above highlighted position, the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) hereby dissociates itself from any action taken so far by any set of people whatsoever under whatever guise and the National Secretariat views such action as a calculated attempt by some set of people to play cheap political games with the intent to blackmail the Union and tarnish our good image and good reputation built over the years,” Abioye said.
