Jigawa NOA partners security agencies on illicit drugs

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has pledged to stop the rampant consumption of illicit drugs by youths in Jigawa, using the security agencies in the state.
The state Director of the agency, Malam Shu’aibu Ibrahim, while interacting with our correspondent on phone yesterday, said NOA’s WAI Brigade personnel were intact and well-trained in the job of identifying consumers of illicit drugs and bringing them to justice.
Shua’ibu Ibrahim described as “alarming” the increasing rate of drug addiction among youths, including married women and girls in the state, adding that recent statics released by the federal government showed that over 3 million bottles of codeine were consumed by the youths in Kano and Jigawa states.
He said the trend must be checked to save the states of imminent danger to the working population, adding that if concerted efforts were not made to immediately nip the menace in the bud, Kano and Jigawa would be in danger of producing drug addicts as leaders.
He however assured that his agency would embark on sensitisation campaign against illicit drugs in all the nooks and crannies of Jigawa state to check the development.
The director urged Muslim ummah to imbibe the teachings of the holy month of Ramadan by avoiding eating, drinking and sexual intercourse from sunset to dawn.
He also counseled parents to inculcate moral and spiritual well being in the minds of their wards so that they would be useful to themselves and the society
