It’s time to rescue PDP, lawmaker tasks party leaders, governors

Spokesperson of the Coalition of Opposition Lawmakers in the House of Representatives, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, has charged leaders and governors on platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to wake up rescue the party from those bent on destroying it.

He said it is time to redeem the party as the leading opposition platform and alternative for Nigerians, lose all iota of credibility from the citizens.

He stated during a media briefing in Abuja that the PDP leaders in the North Central zone must immediately call a stakeholders meeting and select one person who will take over the position of the National Chairman of the party at the next National Executive Committee meeting of the party, as enshrined in the party’s constitution, insisting that the continued stay of Umar Damagun was in breach of the law.

The lawmaker also condemned the conflicting court orders from a federal High Court in Abuja, stopping the process of conducting local government elections in Rivers State by the state Independent Electoral Commission, scheduled for Saturday, October 5. 2024.

Ugochinyere however commended Justice IPC Igwe of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt for standing by the judgement of the Supreme Court on local government autonomy which paved the way for the conduct of local government elections in states.

According to him, governors and other leaders of the party must prevail on the Acting National Chairman of the party, Umar Damagun to step aside and allow for the election of a substantive National Chairman from the North Central zone in accordance with the provisions of the party constitution.
