Is Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade working? –Voxpop

Upon his return to the country, after a ten-day vacation in London, President Muhammadu Buhari vowed on Saturday last week to take a stiffer stance against corruption.
Also, in his Sallah message on Tuesday, he said: “Even if some people hate you for fighting corruption, you should not chicken out from the task as a leader, because doing so is a betrayal of public trust.” PAUL OKAH speaks to Nigerians on the success of the anti-corruption crusade so far
Obasanjo, APC members too It is a well known fact that this country is in a mess if corrupt politicians are allowed to continue to be in government.
For a government that claims to be fighting corruption, APC members should be investigated, because members of the PDP in Jonathan’s tenure have formed a formidable part of the ruling party that is supposedly fighting corruption.
It calls to question the moral compass employed by the party in fighting corruption, when the members are themselves corrupt.
Obasanjo, others should be probed.
When Buhari said that Obasanjo spent 16 billion dollars in a pink elephant power project, many Nigerians believed him, but what is the situation now? The money was probably shared between political associates of Obasanjo.
Buhari should just do the needful and redeem the images of the politicians serving in his government by probing them.
They should be no selected prosecution in his administration.
This present government has been criticised for witch-hunting, so it’s time for Buhari to prove his critics wrong by probing everyone fingered.
Alfa Doria, office secretary.

Fighting corruption is dangerous Okonjo Iweala said in one of her books that fighting corruption is dangerous and I am tempted to agree with her.
Buhari is trying, but he will not succeed in totally eradicating corruption in Nigeria, because many of his supporters are enmeshed in it.
Politicians are all the same, whether in PDP or APC.
The sharing of money by political leaders, to the detriment of the rest of Nigerians, did not start today, so I am not surprised that the politicians Okonjo Iweala mentioned in her book insisted that the money that should be used to better the lot of Nigerians should be shared among the states they were representing.
It would have been a good thing if they had good, honest intentions, but you and I know that all politicians in the country are only after filling the lining of their pockets.
Even this Buhari’s government that claims to be fighting against corruption is not free of corruption, because it is largely made up of the same PDP members of that Ngozi Okonjo Iweala talked about.
They can harangue and intimidate anyone just to have their ways at all times, so government is not for the lilly-livered.
Edwin Efe, political scientist.

Buhari is trying, but…
Nigeria will never be an envy of the global community, because of our political representatives that are bent on disgracing themselves in the name of corruption.
Corruption has eaten so much into the fabrics of society that it will take more than Buhari in eradicating the scourge.
They are many corrupt politicians in government who have no reason being in government.
Adams Oshiomhole, for Ogbetuo Edwin Glory Musa instance, should be investigated if Buhari means well for the country.
His NLC days are still marked with controversies on financial greediness.
Even as the governor of Edo state, he should not claim not to have involved himself in one corrupt practice or the other.
Buhari may mean well for this country, but what about his lieutenants? Nigeria still have a long way to go before we can get it right in this country.
But as long as politicians like Oshiomhole, Dino Melaye, Yahaya Bello and many others are in government, the economy will continue to suffer.
Mark my words, the APC government will leave far less than what they inherited at the end of their tenure.
Yusuf Musa trader.
APC Ministers corrupt Buhari should start his anti corruption campaign with members of the APC.
When the APC government was trying to come into power, the Change mantra they prophesied looked too good to be true, but we are all suffering the effects of the political miscalculations.
Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, then governor of Rivers State and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum(NGF) was rewarded with the Minister for Transportation portfolio, because of his contributions in unseating Jonathan, but we are not faring any better now.
Lagos State’s Babatunde Raji Fashola may be enjoying now as Minister for Power Works and Housing, but the corruption in the APC government has not seen to the improvement of any infrastructure since he assumed duties.
APC government is replete with corruption, even more than the PDP administration.
Adams Oshiomhole maybe the APC national chairman, but is he free from corruption? So much for Buhari and his antics of fighting corruption.
Peter Chima, civil servant.

Buhari should do more I read about Buhari’s Sallah message to Nigerians and I have to agree with him that fighting corruption has its own consequences.
There is no way you can achieve a major task without stepping on a few feet.
However, he should do something about the feeling of majority of Nigerians that the corruption fight is selective.
People believe that he is witchhunting members of the opposition, especially the PDP.
The truth of the matter remains that it was the PDP government that have kept us in the economic hardship we are undergoing now.
It will take a very long time for us to recover from the misrule of the past administration.
Therefore, Buhari is trying his best, but repairing the evils of 16 years misrule is definitely going to take longer than we expect.
Questions should be asked about the recent political upheavals during his vacation and those involved prosecuted.
Aliyu Glory, teacher.

Dariye conviction good example I will have to give it to Buhari that he means business when it comes to fighting corruption.
Even though he may have other failings, of which Nigerians are using to criticize him, he has been very consistent in the fight against corruption.
This consistency led to the conviction of the former governor of Plateau state, Joshua Dariye.
The high profile conviction is a good example because it was hitherto unheralded in the history of Nigeria.
As a result, many politicians are now sitting up and becoming extra careful in order not to fall victim of the Dariye example.
Even the outgoing governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, has come out of his self-induced political hiatus to say that he will make sure he completes many of his projects before handing over power.
Therefore, Buhari has put the fear of God in all politicians by convicting a former governor.
Diamond Ogbetuo, graduate.

Corruption will continue to thrive Donald Trump of America once described Nigeria as fantastically corrupt, so I don’t know where Buhari wants to start his cleansing of the country.
Many corrupt practices have been taking place even under the nose of Buhari himself without his smelling them.
Even as the 2019 general elections draw closer, expect to see more revelations about corrupt practices by those we elected to be our representatives in government.
The bitter truth is that politicians in this country would prefer to deplete the resources of this country, because they refer to it as the national cake, rather than think of how to make life easier and better for their citizens.
The defection of many of our politicians to the opposition party points to the fact that politicians are not interested in saving the economy, but to further plunge it into recession.
Many of them are now enjoying positions as governors and Senators in the present dispensation, so the loot will go on without Buhari walking the talk.
