INGOs stage Covid-19 vaccination awareness rally in Yobe

As part of effort to improve Covid-19 vaccination coverage in Yobe state, CARE International in partnership with Mercy Corps Nigeria, has organised a 2 day street rally to increase awareness of covid-19 Vaccine access in Gashua- Bade and Nguru local government areas.

The Covid-19 awareness street rally was carried out using risk commutation and community engagement to increase vaccine confidence among the target population in collaboration with WHO, African Field Epidemiology Network (AFNET), AHNI, SPHCMB, community and religious leaders.

The rally started from Emir’s Palace Gashu’a to Nasir Guest INN in Bade and Nguru Emir’s Palace to Balunguwa community of Nguru local government area respectively.

With the theme: “Covid-19 is still here, act today and get vaccinated, “ the rally was aimed at making people aware of vaccination and Covid-19 related guidelines.
Speaking, the Community engagement officer CAREZara Mohammed Adam said, the rally will ensure that people receive the vaccine with confidence by receiving timely information on the Covid-19 vaccine availability, safety and vaccine process thereby addressing vaccine resistance.

“Will also improve COVID-19 vaccination coverage by increasing vaccine confidence, acceptance, and uptake in vulnerable communities,”Zara added.

Also, MEAL Officer CARE Abdullahi Kachallah Ali revealed that the program is covering 8 wards, 4 each from Bade and Nguru local government areas.

“This street rally will help towards improving Covid-19 vaccination coverage by increasing vaccine confidence, acceptance and uptake in vulnerable communities in the two local government areas”. He said.

At the awareness rally ,60 people were vaccinated in Bade, while 174 were vaccinated in Nguru local government area respectively.
