Imo people have called for the suspension of the lawmaker representing Ahiazu Mbaise State constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Samuel Otuibe, for throwing an empty bottle at a fellow lawmaker.
Although the incident did not take place at the Assembly Complex due to its closure after some lawmakers tested positive for Covid-19.
The incident took place during a meeting of the lawmakers at the Deputy Speaker’s Lodge Wednesday.
Our correspondent gathered that the meeting which was convened to iron out issues on the alleged non-compliance of the Speaker, Rt Hon Chiji Collins on issues affecting the lawmakers became rowdy when the lawmaker representing Isu State constituency, Hon Ngozi Obiefule said the Speaker was delaying in appointing members to different House Committees and was not bothered about the welfare of members.
After that, Hon Uju Onwudiwe of Njaba State constituency agreed with Hon Obiefule but the Ahiazu Mbaise representative felt she should not have stood up and that she was always too forward to speak.
This led to exchange words and it was at that point that Otuibe got hold of an empty bottle and threw at her direction. But she dodged and the bottle broke into pieces.
Before that meeting, rumour was rife that more than 20 lawmakers had signed for the impeachment of the Speaker.
The people who commented on the incident condemned the lawmakers for not properly representing them.
