Imo: Minister hails Okonjo-Iweala, Uzoka-Anite

Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr Mrs Doris Uzoka-Anite at the Inclusive Digital Entrepreneurship in the agro-food sector, has lauded the efforts of the duo of the Director-General, World Trade Organisation (WTO) Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite in the field of trade, investment and digital advertising.

Represented by Ambassador Mohammed Adamu Abdulhamid, Dr Uzoka-Anite told IDEAS project participants in Owerri, Monday, that the duo had been supporting the project over the years and were particularly interested in the Owerri edition and sent their goodwill messages.

While welcoming the ITC, NTO Geneva and Ambassador of Japan to Nigeria, Abdulhamid said the minister who made the Owerri edition a reality because of the interest she had in assisting and boosting the businesses of  people from the area, would have been present on the occasion but for the emergency call she received from President Bola Tinubu to travel to Saudi Arabia with him on a diplomatic mission, a few days ago.

Ambassador Abdulhamid who briefed participants on the best way to advertise their products digitally, said they should embrace e-commerce rather than depending on WhatsApp or social media platforms and that the Bank of Industry would be willing to support their businesses or provide them with the necessary equipment in a well arranged manner, adding that ” EU subsidizes businesses of entrepreneurs in their countries which gives them accessibility.”

He further advised that entrepreneurs who produce similar products should form an association to export their product to attract less cost and that it must not be sold  in cargo but  through digital or internet trading where you have the AFCTA advantage.

Our correspondent gathered from the  workshop that the federal government would soon release grants to Small and Medium Term Entrepreneurs (SMEs) and even big time entrepreneurs from the sum of  N50,000 to N1 billion.
