Imo medical women seek funds for cancer vaccine

Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Imo state chapter, has called on the Imo state government, House of Assembly, Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) office, local government administrators, community leaders, corporate bodies and public-spirited individuals to assist the association get financial assistance to enable them have access to Human Papilona Virus (HPV) vaccine.

President of MWAN, Imo state, Dr. Emily Akubia Nzeribe, who bared her mind during their 2014 Inauguration of 2013-2015 Biennial Executive Council which held at the Rock View Hotel Owerri recently, said the unavailability and high cost of vaccine had hindered its extensive use in the country.

She also said the support given to the body would increase awareness of the disease.
Nzeribe, who is a senior consultant obstetrician/gynaecologist at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri, said one of the targets of MWAN was to provide free vaccination or give it out at a subsidised cost to “our poor children and young women.”
She called on their collaborating partners to help improve on the lives of Imo women by funding the awareness creation and cost of HPV vaccine.
