Ignore plans to change ONSA into agency, NGO tells Tinubu

A non-governmental organisation, Non State Actors Consultative Forum (NOSACOF), has caution the federal government against succumbing to pressure to change the nomenclature of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) into an agency.

This was contained in a statement made available to reporters in Dutse, the Jigawa state capital on Wednesday by the national convener of NOSACOF, Comrade Abdulrazaq Alqali.

“We appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reject in totality the alleged move by some members within his cabinet to make a bill that would change the Office of the NSA into an agency.

“This is aimed at undermining the general security of the nation and putting the national interest of Nigerians into jeopardy and high risk,” the statement read.

The NGO called on President Tinubu to be conscious and wary of the plan by politicians serving in his government whose aim is to deceive and mislead him into worsening the already tensed security situation in the country.

“They are deceiving him to change the nomenclature of the NSA in the name of structural and constitutional changes in some government institutions.

“Their true intention and motive for such move is about their personal gains and political interests, not the nation as a whole.

“The alleged bill pushed by some members of your government to make the National Assembly change the provision established the Office of the NSA is aimed at allowing the office recruit and establish its own staff similar to existing government agencies and parastatals”, inimical to the peculiar security situation in the country, the statement added.
