The index case of coronavirus reported in Edo state is a male, who recently returned from Europe.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), Prof. Sylvanus Okogbenin, disclosed this during a joint press briefing with governor Godwin Obaseki at the government House in Benin City.
The CMD said the patient’s sample was taken for laboratory test after he showed sign of the virus.
He explained that the patient is currently receiving treatment at the isolation centre.
According to him, “His (the patient) case is mind and moderate and we are very hopeful.”
Okoegbenin further stated that contact tracing for anyone who had contact with the unamed patient has commenced.
