Hyenas, hawks prowling to feast on Benue funds – Alia

The Benue state governor, Hycinth Alia, has said there are hyenas prowling and hawks hovering to feast on Benue funds if he dare unfrozen accounts that were frozen when he took over mantle of leadership.

The governor  stated this during an interaction with newsmen Saturday at Government House Makurdi.

He expressed worry over the high level of corruption and decay in the state saying if he revealed what he has discovered within months of his government, many people will prefer that the account remains closed till the end of the year.

He  added that  some of the state government accounts, belonging to Ministries, Departments and Agencies, remain frozen due to some landmines planted in them by some persons, shortly before  he took over in May.

The governor said, “Since those people are still monitoring the accounts, waiting for anything to drop in it so they can cart away for their personal use. The best decision is for the accounts to remain frozen until government is convinced that they are safe for use.”

He noted that government ministries, departments and agencies, affected by the freezen of account but are in need, always raise their issues to the appropriate authority, and such requests were treated as demanded by MDAs.

He added that the accounts will be unfrozen sooner than expected.

The governor denied the allegation that he had a feud with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume , who is also leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Benue.
