A group on the platform of Edo North Conscience (ENC) has called on Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, speaker of the Edo state House of Assembly to step aside, having lost his party’s majority status to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group said it was morally and politically wrong for Agbebaku, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator with 11 seats at the assembly, to continue to cling to the exalted office, whereas the APC commands a significant majority of 13 seats.”
This was contained in a communiqué issued at the ENC stakeholders meeting held in Auchi, Etsako West local government area of Edo state.
In the communiqué endorsed by Mr. Oshioke Aledeh, and Mr Tunde Balogun, leader and secretary, the group vowed to initiate the process that could ultimately lead to Rt. Hon Agbebaku’s removal.
The communiqué reads in part: “The embattled speaker orchestrated the brutal campaign that left APC members reeling in pains and discomfort during the tumultuous state assembly elections that paved the way for his ascension to power.
“The ENC also recounted the harrowing tales of assault suffered by some prominent APC leaders and members, resulting in multiple injuries, loss of property and other valuables.
“We are therefore questioning why Speaker Blessing Agbebaku should thrive where he has sown only discord.
“The obvious fact is that the Edo political atmosphere has become charged with Speaker Agbebaku still in office.
“His removal from the seat appears to be the only balm that would sooth members of the ruling APC, led by Governor Monday Okpebholo.”
