Group raises concerns over NSA’s $1bn arms statement

A group, Oduduwa Development Initiative (ODI), has raised concerns over the current uproar over the National Security Adviser (NSA), Major Gen. Babagana Monguno’s one billion dollar arms fund comments.

The group said the NSA’s words were taken out of context.

The group wondered why such harmless statement should be politicised amid the security challenges currently plaguing the country that requires all hands to be on deck.

A statement by the national president, Ambassador Akinyele Olasumbo, in Abuja Monday said the initiative is not unaware of a deliberate campaign of calumny and agitation for the removal of the NSA based on this harmless statement.

“This is coming at a time when the nation is battling with widespread insecurity across the country and we require every ounce of concerted effort to stem the tide and restore confidence in the people.

“We wish to inform the general public that the NSA was quoted out of context by elements that are surreptitiously working towards the division of this nation and the people must be alerted.

“Instead of the inflammatory statement, bthe NSA reiterated the Federal government commitment to deal decisively with insecurity.

“The statement alleged that the NSA in an interview said the $1billion funds meant to purchase arms to tackle insurgency during the ex-service chief’s tenure is missing and fifth columnists politicised the statement to inflame an already tense environment that urgently requires exigent tranquility,” he said.

He urged the NSA not to be distracted or join issues with those who are deliberately working to derail his efforts at guiding the country through the auspicious time.
