Group empowers women with N.8m soft loan

A non-governmental organisation under the aegis of Amokwe Patriotic Platform (APP) has distributed N800,000 interest-free loan to 40 women of Amokwe in Udi council area of Enugu state to grow their little businesses.
Presenting the loan of N20,000 each to the 40 women beneficiaries at Afor Inyi hall at the weekend, the chairman of APP, Dr. Frank Iloeje, charged the women to use the money for the purposes for which it was meant, stressing that they chose this period where lots of people return home for Christmas celebration to encourage them boost their businesses and equally make more profits.
Dr. Iloeje said that APP was made up of sons and daughters of Amokwe town who are really interested in developing Amokwe and her people, explaining: “We contribute money and put it in projects that improve living standard of our people. This time we decided to empower our women who are active in little businesses with this interest free loan that is payable after one year.”
The chairman disclosed that while his organisation has different programmes, including women empowerment, construction of earth roads with drainages and health programmes, said on 27th December, 2017 “we would carry out medical mission where sick people from our town and beyond will be treated free of charge, no matter the type of illness.”
Our correspondent reports that the 40 beneficiaries were drawn 10 women each from the four autonomous communities in Amokwe town. The women were full of appreciation for the loan.
Dr. Iloeje, however, thanked Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for coming to salvage the long suffering of the people by constructing 7km access roads to the town which government over the years has neglected and “we are grateful to the governor and his government.”
