Gombe WANEP trains 40 on conflict, strategies

West African Network for Peace Building (WANEP) has begun a three-day training of 40 monitors and analysts on gender sensitive early warning and response strategies within the context of Gombe peace architecture.
The Programme Manager of the non-governmental organisation, Osariemen Amas-Edobor, who disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Gombe on Monday, said the training programme aimed at promoting engagement in peace and security in Northern Nigeria was being funded by the European Union.
According to her, “the essence of the workshop was to help the communities develop conflict early warning indicators that are peculiar to Gombes, context-specific and which will also reflect the peace and security dynamics of the state.
She said, following a stakeholders’ consultative and capacity needs assessment and mapping workshop, it brought together multi stakeholders from across Gombe State such as women leaders, the media, traditional and religious institutions and youth leaders.
Osariemen said early warning was the detection of indicators that could lead to violent conflict early enough, while assuring that actions were being taken to prevent conflict from happening as well as reduce its impact on the populace.
