Gombe gov, CSOs celebrate Alhassan’s election as NUJ national president

Gombe state governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has congratulated Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi on his election as the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), describing it as a significant achievement and a moment of pride for the state and the nation’s journalism community.

In a statement made available to newsmen by Mr. Samaila Uba Misilli in Gombe following Alhassan’s victory at the 8th Triennial Delegates Conference held in Owerri, Imo state, Governor Yahaya commended the new NUJ leader’s dedication, courage, and exceptional service across various leadership levels in the union.

“From your early days at the chapel level to your outstanding contributions at the state, zonal, and national levels, you have consistently demonstrated unmatched integrity and passion for journalism and the welfare of journalists,” the governor said.

He highlighted the trust and confidence journalists nationwide have placed in Comrade Alhassan, calling his election a testament to his commitment and leadership qualities.

The governor pledged the support of the Gombe state government and its people as Alhassan assumes his new role, expressing optimism about his ability to drive progress and unity within the NUJ.

“As you take on this noble responsibility, rest assured that Gombe State stands firmly behind you. Under your leadership, we are confident the NUJ will witness a new era of professionalism and excellence, elevating journalism’s role in national development,” he said.

As chairman of the Northern states Governors’ Forum, Governor Yahaya emphasized the importance of visionary leadership in addressing the challenges facing the media industry.

He expressed confidence in Alhassan’s capacity to foster unity and inspire meaningful dialogue within the NUJ and across national platforms.

The Governor also commended the peaceful conduct of the NUJ election, noting its importance in reinforcing democratic ideals and advancing national development.

He extended his prayers and best wishes for a successful tenure for Comrade Alhassan and the entire NUJ leadership.

“This victory symbolizes the strength of leadership, determination, and excellence you embody,” the said.

In another development , Gombe Network of Civil Society (GONET) has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Alhaji Alhassan Yahaya.

In a letter signed by Ibrahim Yusuf, Chairman of GONET, the organization lauded Yahaya’s exceptional commitment to journalism and humanity, which secured his victory.

The coalition emphasized the critical role of investigative and development-focused journalism in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fostering societal progress.

“Your election comes at a pivotal time when the media is indispensable for promoting good governance, transparency, and accountability. Under your visionary leadership, we are confident that the NUJ will advance press freedom and development-oriented journalism,” the statement read.

GONET, a coalition of civil society organizations in Gombe State, reiterated its dedication to promoting good governance, accountability, and sustainable development. The group expressed its readiness to collaborate with the NUJ at both state and national levels to amplify marginalized voices and drive inclusive growth across the country.
