Security agencies in the country have been called upon to get the member of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) off the streets of Abuja.
In the last few weeks, members of IMN have been staging protests on the streets of Abuja, over the continuous detention of their leader, Ibraheem El-zakzaky and his wife.
At a world press conference in Abuja, Programme Coordinator of Defence for Human Rights in Nigeria, Mr. Suleiman Musa, said the rights group is constrained to speak out on the daily intentional provocation by the IMN to muzzle the sensibilities of Abuja residents.
He said security agencies needed to intervene urgently to avoid the breakdown of law and other in the Federal Capital Territory due to the activities of the IMN.
”We are constrained to speak out on the daily intentional provocation by the IMN to muzzle the sensibilities of Abuja residents. We have watched with kin interest, the recent activities of the IMN and its threat to the human rights of Abuja residents.
”For a long time now, IMN members have deliberately been causing public nuisance to other road users on the Streets of FCT. More worrisome is the fact that, since Monday, 1st July, 2019, there has been an increase in the tempo of their recalcitrant provocative antics. The way the group is going, the nation will wake up to another hydra-headed and violent group in the mould of Boko Haram insurgents.
”In a rare exhibition of its inexperience, IMN formed its own traffic officers who flooded the roads causing an avoidable traffic gridlock instead of controlling traffic, thereby deliberately causing unnecessary hardship on motorists, commuters as well as other road users and residents in the Federal Capital Territory”.
He wondered why IMN members would converge on Abuja to stage protests when the trials of their leader and his wife is on-going in a high court in Kaduna state.
