FG harps on importance of competition science, technology

 

The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology has stated that its annual quiz competition was designed to promote science and technology among secondary schools in Nigeria.

Federal Government College Okposi, in Ebonyi state, bagged the first position in the 2017 edition of the equiz.
During the grand finale of the 2017 edition of the quiz attended by selected secondary schools across the country, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr Amina Shamaki, said with the introduction of national science and innovation roadmap, the government was poised to promote science and technology in the educational sector.

She said, “The competition which we considered as critical was organised to encourage and help vulnerable women, children and youths in our secondary schools.”

Speaking earlier, the Director General, Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Dr Hussaini Ibrahim, who was represented by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs and Protocol, Mr Chuks Ngaha, said the competition was borne out of the need to, as a matter of policy, catch the pupils young as a way of preparing and developing their thoughts towards the industrial sector.

Speaking further, he said, “There are critical talents in the system and we have in a way sensitised these intellects and have created enough awareness by assembling them together to enhance their productivity.”

While lauding the participants, the chairman of the organising committee, Mr James Baba, in his speech, commended the participating schools for working hard to the final stages saying, there were neither winners nor losers.
