Benue state Governor, Samuel Ortom has said for killing of farmers by herdsmen to be curtailed, Nigeria must borrow from the USA ranching system, just like democracy was borrowed.
He said that the people of Benue have suffered so much invasion and killings by strange herdsmen believed to be mercenaries, who would wreck havoc in communities, sacking the locals and taking over the land.
Ortom made this call at the weekend during the coronation ceremony of His Royal Majesty, Prof James Ayatse, Tor Tiv in Gboko, the traditional headquarters of the Tiv nation.

In his acceptance speech, the newly installed Nom-Begha U Tiv, called on the Nigeria nation to reverse the deliberate marginalisation and humiliation of the Tiv nation where, though with numerical strength as the fourth largest ethnic group in the country that is blessed with “overwhelming human resources”, the people are not represented at the Federal Executive Council of the present administration.
He said he would have to liaise with the relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure continuous killing of his subjects in Benue, Nassarawa and Taraba states, was brought to a standstill.
