Ex-convict bags 30 months jail for stealing mobile phone in Osun


For stealing mobile phone, a 21-year-old man, Lekan Usman, has been sentenced to 30 months imprisonment by a Magistrate Court in Osogbo, Osun state. 


The convict was arraigned on three-count charges of house breaking and stealing. He was also said to have attended to escape arrest. 


The prosecutor, Mr. Olayiwola Razaq, told the court that the convict committed the offence on May 1st, 2020 at about 3am, at Oke-Ayepe area, Osogbo. 


He said the convict entered into the dwelling of one Adebayo Olalekan to steal two Tecno Phone valued N62,000, one Infinix hot 8 phone valued N36,000, one Infinix Hot 4 phone valued N35,000, one small Itel phone valued N3,500 one, Laptop valued N25,000.


He said the offences contravened the provision of sections 412, 135(b) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol Il, laws of Osun State, 2002.


The convict who was not legally represented, pleaded guilty to all the charges against him. 


The Magistrate, Mrs Modupe Awodele, thereby sentenced the convict to 12 months on count one and two, and pronounced six months jail for him on count three. 


She said the jail term should run consecutively or the convict should pay N5,000 on each of the three count charges.
