About 70 per cent of the members of the Ezeagu Legislative Assembly of Enugu state, on Tuesday suspended their leader, Hon Sunday Agu, along with four other members.

It was gathered that 15 out of the 20 members of the council sat and suspended their leader and the four others.

Addressing the press after their sitting on Tuesday, the deputy leader, Hon. Okafor Obidimma Stephen, said their leader was suspended for gross misconduct and negligence.

According to him, the sitting allowances of the suspended lawmakers for one month will not be paid.

Okafor also said that the Assembly would be going on recess and will commence further sitting on the 15th of December, 2022.

He warned that anyone that attempts to open the legislative chamber would be regarded as a criminal and will be treated as such.

However, one of the lawmakers who did not want his name in print told our correspondent that their suspended leader walked out on them without any reason and that informed the reason for the action of the majority of the members.

“In the records of our last sitting, we adjourned to sit today. When we all came for the sitting, without any reason, Hon. Agu and his four other lackeys walked out on us.

“His action qualifies for a gross misconduct and that’s why we took the action.”

However, at the time of filing the report, efforts to get the suspected lawmakers could not yield any dividend.
