Enugu council boss clears 10 years leave allowances

The executive chairman of Udi local government area of Enugu state,  Hon. Philip Nnamdi Okoh, has said that he cleared ten years leave allowance owed to the staff of the council by his predecessors.

Okoh made this known in his office at the council headquarters when Good Governance Monitoring Team made up of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ) and Coalition of Civil Society Organisations, visited him as part of the good governance tour of development projects.

He said that he was touched by the plight of the workers to offset the outstanding leave allowances while at the same time paying salaries regularly.

The executive chairman who reeled out some of his other achievements since March 2022 he took over power, said they spent heavily on security, especially, to check the sporadic kidnappings in the communities.

According to him, they had to spend millions of Naira to clear bushes along the major roads to ward off kidnappers from making the bushes their hiding places to launch attacks on motorists and wayfarers.

Okoh also recounted how he renovated the dilapidated water borehole and made it solar powered which has been supplying water to the council headquarters and the adjourning communities.

The local government under his watch, Okoh disclosed, embarked on the construction of a high court complex and a 2500 capacity civic centre put at the cost of over six hundred million.

On road, the council constructed a 1.4 kilometer Obinagu Road with drainages and installed a 500 KVA Transformer for Obinagu Community.

He also disclosed that the council has tackled the erosion menace that hitherto bedeviled the council areas.

“Today, we have tackled the erosion problem in the council areas.  We have done a lot in the area of erosion control.

He however promised to complete all the development projects they are currently embarking on if given the opportunity for a second term, lamenting that two-year tenure is not enough to enable council chairmen to carry out their development project agenda.

The group embarked on a tour of the 17 local government areas of Enugu state.
