Encouraging local contractors panacea to poverty, unemployment – Farmtrac

An indigenous contractor, Farmtrac Nigeria Limited has called on federal and state governments to improve local content and increase engagement of local contractors as solution to the unemployment, poverty and economic challenges facing Nigeria.

Farmtrac is renowned for adding value to its construction work and delivering quality contracts for Kaduna state government, Danish Government and Central Bank of Nigeria, Taraba state government, World Bank and African Development Bank (ADB) among others, using international standard equipment and local engineers.

Speaking after receiving the Blueprint Indigenous Contractor of the Year Award at the Blueprint 2021 Annual Lectures/Impact Series in Abuja, Tuesday, the Managing Director and CEO of Farmtrac, Engr. Sadiq Abubakar, said Nigeria is endowed with lots of human and material resources, adding that engaging local contractors and increasing local content will help address poverty, unemployment among the youth and by extension insecurity as youth who are engaged will not have recourse to crime.

“Today I feel great and I feel confident in what I’m doing as a contractor, using brand new standard equipment and local engineers to compete with foreign contractors. It gave me joy for Farmtrac to be recognized today as the Local Contractor of the Year 2021.

“It is something that I’m proud of and this Award will spur me to do more. With this recognition, I would do more.

“I want to urge both the Federal and state governments to encourage local contractors more. If they encourage local contractors, more young engineers will have courage to enter into the business and be involved and more young engineers will be employed,” he said.
