The leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state, said comments by governor Godwin Obaseki on the slide in Nigeria’s economy is a wake-up call to all Nigerians – including himself (Obaseki).
According to the party, “the governor spoke the truth desperated needed at the moment” even as it urged residents to support Obaseki’s blueprints for the state.
Mr. Tony Aziegbemi, the chiairman of PDP in the State said this at a Press Conference in Benin City on Friday.
Obaseki had last week expressed reservations over the nation’s economic slide and alleged that the federal government printed about #60 billion to enable States get it’s Federal allocations in March.
The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed had described the governor’s allegation as false and sad.
However, Aziegbemi who is Doctor of economics insisted that the nation’s “economy was in dire straits”.
The PDP chairman said: “we are here to lay the facts as they are… The truth is still the truth even if no one believed it.
“The recurrent expenditure is 85 percent of the budget and less than 20 percent is budgeted for capital budget. How can we survive?
“It’s only the PDP that has the wherewithal to lead Nigeria out of this imminent economic catastrope.,” he added.
