Edo: NUJ withdraws sanction on APC as party apologises

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo state council has suspended its planned boycott of the All Progressives Congress (APC) activities. 

The decision to suspend the boycott was taken at a ‘special  congress’ of the union held  Tuesday at the  Press Centre, Benin City.

The move followed a letter of unreserved apology from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state addressed to the council.

This was in addition to a letter of commitment to replace all  items belonging of journalists in the state that were damaged or misplaced when they were attacked on February 17, 2024.

The APC in the letter, promised to replace the damaged items on or before March 16, 2024.

Scores of journalists covering the APC governorship primary on the said date were attacked by political thugs at Lushville Hotel, venue of the announcement of results for the exercise.

Working equipment of some journalists and personal belongings were destroyed during the mayhem.

The NUJ leadership on February 18, handed out a seven -day ultimatum to the party to apologise and replace damaged items.
