The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman Sokoto state chapter, Alhaji Mohammed Bello Goronyo, has accussed the All Progressive Congress APC led administration in Sokoto of starving the local government councils of funds despite the huge allocations from the federation’s account
The chairman who stated this while fielding questions from newsmen in Sokoto during the PDP state , zonal and local government executives committee meeting, held at the party’s Secretariat along Ahmadu Bello Way, lamented that the 23 local government staff have to wait for the March allocation before they could pay February salary.
Goronyo also lamented that there was no single project being carried out by the local council to justify the huge money they collect from the federation account
Speaking on the security challenges, the PDP chairman explained that governance has taken a step backwards since the time the PDP left power in Sokoto state
He added that the APC led administration has woefully failed the people of Sokoto state and Northwest.
“In Sokoto state the security situation has worsened. Killings, Kidnapping and maiming of innocent citizens have become a daily affair under the APC led government and there’s no meaningful action.
“The leaders are insensitive to the plight of the victims even condolences the victims could not get from the people who sworn to protect them
“This administration is anti people and anti- progress. From demolition businesses outfits to failing to create a conducive environment for businesses to flourish,” the chairman stated
He said the PDP remain the party to beat in Sokoto state and Nigeria.
“We are meeting to take stock of our performance as an opposition party and strategize to take over power from the failed APC governments at state and Central levels”
“This is our quarterly meeting involving all state executives, zonal representatives, and local government party leaders. It’s part of our effort to evaluate our progress and set our direction moving forward,” he said.
Goronyo dismissed speculations about potential political realignments and possible party mergers ahead of 2027, affirming that the PDP will continue to operate under its current identity.
“The PDP remains the last man standing among the five political parties registered in 1998. It’s a grassroots party and will continue to operate under its current identity,” he said
